Service users from Innovate Trust attending a film screening

In October 2016, the Memo Arts Centre, working in partnership with Innovate Trust and Film Hub Wales, launched an exciting new film club.

Cine-Venture offered its audience an opportunity to enjoy the latest blockbusters and specialised films, with a meeting session before and after the films to discuss, critic the films and enjoy a new social activity, supporting individuals with their carers to become independent cinema goers.

Our relaxed film screenings were specially designed to welcome people with an Autism Spectrum Condition, sensory or communication disorders, learning disabilities or anyone who would benefit from a relaxed environment into the cinema.

Cine-Venture featured 1 film screening a month, which included blockbuster titles, all-time greats and specialised films. The new Cine-Venture film screenings provided an arrival space with a club pre-film forum, and tickets inlcuded drink, popcorn and a special film note.

What makes the screenings relaxed?

Relaxed Screenings have a less formal, more supportive atmosphere in order to reduce anxiety levels. There is a relaxed attitude to audience noise and movement, and some small changes are made to the sound levels with reduced advertising material.

Cine-Venture was presented in partnership with Innovate Trust, with funding from Film Hub Wales.
