Ivor James and his wife Margaret, who has dementia, at a Cine-Memories screening.

Our Dementia Friendly cinema programme features regular afternoon screenings for everyone to enjoy.

These relaxed film screenings are specifically tailored for people living with dementia, their carers and families, aiming to make cinema more accessible, by providing an inclusive experience, in a safe and welcoming environment.

Join us from 1:00pm in our café bar to catch up with a friend over a drink, or enjoy some dementia friendly activities with new friends, before our film screening starts at 1:30pm.

Feedback from dementia friendly cinema attendees: “My husband’s dementia has excluded us from many activities but with dementia screenings we feel safe enough to enjoy going to the cinema again. It has been liberating for us both as we cope with this isolating illness”

Our Dementia Friendly Cinema offers:

  • Welcoming staff and cafe area
  • A place to meet up and make new friends
  • Lights on low, volume turned down, with no trailers or adverts
  • Wheelchair spaces and flexible seating
  • Free hot/cold drink and biscuits with each ticket
  • Sing-along sheets for musicals
  • A comfort break interval towards the middle of the film
  • Accessible toilets and facilities
  • Free on-site car park

The Memo is proud to be a member of Barry’s Dementia Friendly Community. Our staff are Dementia Friends trained to understand patrons’ needs, and are on hand to offer support during your visit.
