Love film? We do too! #BarryCinema

We live in a world where we are constantly bombarded by choice when it comes to choosing our entertainment. In this digital age we don’t even need to leave our own sofa to choose from hundreds of different options. But we still believe that nothing beats the experience of watching a film on the big screen.

We screen block busters, family favourites and specialised films throughout the year in our fabulous 4K Sony Digital Cinema (four times the detail of Full HD) with superb Dolby Surround Sound.

We’re often asked why we don’t show films at the same time as the bigger multiplexes. The answer is that distributors often insist on a minimum booking of 7 days in the first few weeks, and this is something we cannot usually do as our cinema shares the booking diary with our theatre.

So with only one screen in our venue, we aim to screen new releases within 3 weeks of national release.

The great news is that we have carried out a feasibility and have been given the assurance that with a successful fundraising campaign we have the space and capacity to install a second screen in the venue, so this is one of the projects we’re working on, and when completed, we will be able to present daily 4k cinema in Barry.

How to donate

You can donate whilst buying tickets on our website. Make sure you select ‘Support the Memo’ as you make your purchase. Don’t forget to Gift Aid your donation — we can reclaim the tax, adding an extra 25p onto every pound you donate, and making your donation go further.

Sponsor our Second Cinema Screen installation which will bring daily cinema to the Memo

With your continued support, we’re working hard to ensure the Memo will still be here for future generations to enjoy.

Thank you for your support!

We also provide relaxed and accessible film screening events every month, host fundraiser film screenings and programme affordable family favourites during the school holidays.

We present live streaming broadcasts in High Definition direct to the Memo from National Theatre, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, The Royal Shakespeare Company and some West End productions. Many of these productions often sell-out, and the only way to then see them is on the Big Screen. ‘Encore’ screenings are screenings which are captured live but screened later (unedited, screened as live). We offer a fantastic, convenient and affordable way to see the very best live theatre productions – watching theatre in a traditional theatre setting!
