The Black Spider

Following the enormous success of Brundibar (2019), WNO’s Youth Opera groups once again join forces for a full scale performance.

The Black Spider is a creepy, comic tale that takes us from the present day back to the Middle Ages. We revisit ancient Poland, where a mysterious green man offers to protect a village from their evil landlord in exchange for the beautiful Christina’s hand in marriage. When she breaks her promise and weds her true love instead, the village is cursed with a plague from a spider that crawls out of her hand. Christina battles to save her people and eventually buries the spider outside the church to end the disaster. However, centuries later amid excavations at the church, archaeologists are hit by an unexplained virus……

Yn dilyn llwyddiant aruthrol Brundibar (2019), mae grwpiau Opera Ieuenctid WNO wedi uno unwaith eto ar gyfer perfformiad raddfa lawn.

Mae The Black Spider yn stori anghynnes, comig sy’n mynd â ni o heddiw yn ôl i’r Oesoedd Canol. Rydym yn ailymweld â Gwlad Pwyl gynt, lle mae dyn gwyrdd rhyfedd yn cynnig amddiffyn pentref rhag eu landlord cas ond iddo gael priodi Christina hardd. Pan mae hi’n torri ei haddewid ac yn priodi ei gwir gariad, mae’r pentref yn cael ei felltithio gyda phla gan bryf cop sy’n cropian o’i dwylo. Mae Christina yn ymladd i achub ei phobl ac yn y diwedd, yn llwyddo i gladdu’r pryf cop y tu allan i’r eglwys er mwyn rhoi diwedd ar y drychineb. Fodd bynnag, ganrifoedd yn ddiweddarach, yng nghanol y gwaith o gloddio’r eglwys, mae archaeolegwyr yn cael eu taro gan firws heb esboniad….
